Five more schools in our province have been added to the Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) program to support mental health and wellbeing for students.
Education Minister Everett Hindley and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Lori Carr announced the expansion today of the five additional schools.
Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, Rossignol High School in Ile-a-la-Crosse, Martensville High School, Holy Rosary High School in Lloydminster and Swift Current Composite High School were selected through an application process, which now totals 24 schools in 19 school divisions, and the program will be in place for this fall.
Hindley says, “The Mental Health Capacity Building program is helping young people learn how to manage their emotions, anxiety and increase awareness of mental health and where they can find additional support. We are pleased to expand this program to reach more students and school communities across Saskatchewan.”
Carr spoke about the importance of early interventions and access to support for students and families who are experiencing mental health concerns. She says expanding the Mental Health Capacity Building program delivers on their commitment under the province’s Action Plan for Mental Health and Addictions.
The 2025-2026 Ministry of Education budget included $1.6 million of additional funding for the MHCB program, bringing the total investment to $4.6 million this year.
The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to expanding the MHCB program to all 27 school divisions by 2028, through their Action Plan for Mental Health and Addictions.
