The Métis Nation Saskatchewan (MN-S) has declared a State of Emergency alongside the provincial government as wildfires, worsened by hot, dry conditions and high winds, force many citizens to flee their homes in the province.
MN-S President Glen McCallum highlighted the unpredictable nature of the wildfires and the sudden evacuations, urging for a compassionate response to support displaced citizens with culturally grounded services and comforts.
The MN-S is deploying response teams and working closely with provincial and federal partners to ensure timely aid, supplies, and shelter, while calling on Métis citizens to avoid activities that could spark new fires or hinder firefighting efforts.
