The Resort Village of Candle Lake reports today that the “Shoe” Fire has now grown to over 47-hundred square kilometres in size which would make it about 20 times the size of Saskatoon.
While being less than 14 kilometres from Candle Lake and despite winds blowing away from the Village, fire officials say the wildfire continues to move towards the community at approximately half a kilometre per day.
Resort Village officials say the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency does not recommend a mandatory evacuation at this time, but the voluntary evacuation advisory is still in effect. They also say that if anyone is still in the Resort Village because they have nowhere to go, please contact the Resort Village as soon as possible because they will take proactive measures to help find lodging.
As of noon on Wednesday there are 23 wildfires burning in the province and eight of them are not contained.
