The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency have listed Lac La Ronge Indian Reserve as the most recent community to undergo a wildfire evacuation.
The Reserve was added Saturday, growing the number of communities evacuated to 35. The fire impacting this region is the Pisew fire, which is 159,485 hectares in size as of 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
There are currently 24 active wildfires across the province. Six of them are not contained, down from nine early last week.
The SPSA’s Saturday wildfire update says the Shoe fire is nearing 500,000 hectares in size, currently at 496,695 hectares.
According to the communities Saturday wildfire update, this fire remains 11 kilometres from Candle Lake after successful efforts to prevent the fire from reaching the village from fire crews over the weekend.
SPSA crews, joined by the incident command team from British Columbia, have been implementing small back burns are fire breaks where possible. Combined with some rain, these improvements are keeping the Village hopeful.
