Effective immediately, the Voluntary Evacuation advisory has been lifted for the Resort Village of Candle Lake, and Friday at 9:27 a.m. the Resort Village Council lifted the local emergency. The fire ban remains in effect.
They are basing it on recent fire-behaviour assessments, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) fire data, and forecasted weather conditions there is a markedly reduced likelihood of wildfire encroaching upon the Resort Village making the Shoe Fire no longer an immediate threat.
The update says that while fire activity may continue for several weeks or months, normal activities may resume and they welcome their full-time and seasonal residents, and visitors back to the community.
As of 11:30 a.m. Friday there are 19 wildfires burning in the province and six are not contained. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is responding to 14 evacuation incidents. There have been 259 wildfires to date in the province, which is considerably more than the five-year average, at 148, for the same time frame.
