Before the weekend, we told you about Aerin Bowers and her attempt to swim the English Channel and she is already in the water.
Aerin had a ten-day window to do the swim and when she gets to go is determined by the pilot of the boat based on weather and tide.
Aerin went into the water at 3:30 a.m., around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night our time, in Dover, England. She had estimated the swim could be 35 or 36 kilometres depending on the tides and would take 12 to 16 hours to swim it.
The last update indicated they could see the shores of France and while the tides were challenging her stroke rate remained strong.
Bowers is the daughter of Saskatchewan sports icon Kelly Bowers and says she had planned the swim for 2024, but her effort was torpedoed by uncooperative weather.
The trip to England and her pursuit of a goal to swim the English Channel is entirely self-funded but she has set a goal to raise $10,000 for Jumpstart. She points out that it has helped over 4 million kids in Canada have access to sport.
