The second wave of wildfires in Saskatchewan appears to have levelled off some.
As of 11 a.m. Thursday, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (S-P-S-A) reported 64 active wildfires in the province – the same as Wednesday – with 19 of those blazes considered to be not contained – down one from Wednesday. To date this year, Saskatchewan has had 329 wildfires, well above the five year average of 190. Five communities are under an evacuation order – Northern Settlement of Bear Creek, Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge, Northern Village of Beauval, Kinoosao and La Plonge First Nations. In their news release, the S-P-S-A says they are offering retoractive food security support for those communities supported by the S-P-S-A, where the residents are not staying in S-P-S-A provided hotels. The agency will provide to those that qualify, $40 per day for the head of household, plus $20 for each additional member up to a maximum of $200 daily.
