It has been cooler than normal for this time of year over the last 24 hours with several areas of the province experiencing a chilly day. Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan set a record low overnight with – 0.5 degrees. The last record was 1.1 degrees for the area, set in 2009.
According to Environment Canada there is a high-pressure ridge over the area this morning, meaning there are no clouds keeping the warmth in. The wildfire smoke also plays a role in the chilly temperatures because it is so thick that it blocks out the warmth from the sun.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada Crawford Luke says, “The smoke should be hopefully clearing Wednesday evening, so it should be a lot better for Thursday, and that should help to warm things up to get back to more typical summer temperatures.”
