Two separate traffic stops resulted in five total arrests by the Saskatoon Police Service (S-P-S) over the weekend.
An S-P-S news release said one incident happened at about 2 a.m. on Sunday as a traffic stop near Pacific Avenue and 23rd Street East turned up open alcohol in the vehicle. A subsequent search found bear spray, drug trafficking paraphernalia, various suspected drugs, a baton and a firearm. The 35-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with several unspecified weapons and drug-related offences, plus he was ticketed for having open alcohol in a vehicle.
The other traffic stop occurred back on Friday night at around 11:30 p.m. A vehicle was stopped in the 100 block of Avenue L South with warrant enforcement unit officers finding a sawed-off rifle, a replica firearm, brass knuckles, bear spray and methamphetamine in the vehicle – leading to four people being arrested. A 30-year-old woman was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession in a vehicle and breach of court-imposed conditions. A 30-year-old man faces three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of prohibited possession. A 32-year-old woman was arrested after she was found to be unlawfully at large and a 24-year-old woman was charged charged with possession of methamphetamine.
