Eston received 100 millimetres of rain, or about twice the monthly average, over the course of 12 hours during the weekend.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke says they received numerous reports of flooding following the downpour. Other regions that received a heavy dousing of rain include the area along the Highway 13 corridor in Saskatchewan’s south, at 40-70 millimetres, and Saskatoon, which saw about 25 mm.
He adds that when it comes to smoke, there is reason for optimism later in the week, most likely by Thursday evening.
“Smoke will lift north, with that south wind helping us out. And then, it looks like the air quality will be okay throughout the weekend, or at least until Sunday.”
At that time, he says a northerly wind is forecast to bring the smoke back down into central and southern Saskatchewan.
He also expects the temperatures to warm up later in the week, rising from mid-teens to mid-twenties, the seasonal average for this time of year.
