Over five centimetres of snow has fallen in Saskatoon and surrounding area, meaning the City has officially declared a snow event.
Nearly 30 graders, eight plows, and 16 sanding and salting trucks have been mobilized. They will begin with addressing Priority 1 streets such as freeways and major arterials. They will be followed by Priority 2 Streets such as double-lanes roadways like Millar, Clarence, and McKercher Avenues.
Priority three streets will come next. These are streets that take you through your neighborhood, like Main St. and Louise Avenue.
The snow is also creating slippery or icy road conditions in parts of the city.
Saskatoon Police report there were 35 collisions between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with additional reports still coming in. For example, a semi went off the Highway 7 rail overpass just west of Saskatoon this afternoon. The driver was not injured, but the highway was closed to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
Motorists are advised to drive slower and leave a bit more space between vehicles during the rush-hour drive home.
