A 23 year old man—-wanted by Saskatoon Police for an assault investigation—was arrested Sunday in northern Saskatchewan after allegedly running into an RCMP cruiser in the community of Turnor Lake, about six hours northwest of Saskatoon.
RCMP spotted the man in an SUV outside a home. As an officer approached the vehicle, the SUV went into reverse and hit the cruiser twice and narrowly missed the officer who was outside. RCMP located the SUV in a ditch a short-time later. A female passenger inside the vehicle had been allegedly assaulted. The man fled into a treed area, but was arrested later Sunday at a residence in Turner Lake.
Trent Janvier is facing a string of assault and property damage charges:
- two counts, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
- one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18(1)(b), Criminal Code;
- one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code;
- one count, forcible confinement, Section 279(2), Criminal Code;
- two counts, damage to property over $5000, Section 430(3), Criminal Code; and
- one count, taking motor vehicle without consent of owner, Section 335(1), Criminal Code.
